With 19 contest categories covering a wide range of disciplines, PSIA provides an opportunity for private, parochial, and home school students in grades 1 through 8 to engage in academic competition with their peers throughout the state of Texas. PSIA remains the most comprehensive academic extracurricular program in the nation for students in grades 1-8.
Contests include Art Memory, Calculator, Creative Writing, Dictionary Skills, Impromptu Speaking, Listening Skills, Maps, Graphs, and Charts, Mathematics, Modern Oratory, Music Memory, Number Sense, On-Site Drawing, Poetry or Prose, Ready Writing, Science, Spelling, Storytelling, and Vocabulary.
St. Mary's School competed in the PSIA academic competition on Saturday, March 26th, 2011. Ten schools entered in the meet and St. Mary's School finished in 1st place! St Mary's had 62 students compete in 50 contests. All of our students worked very hard in preparing for the competition and should be congratulated for their efforts. Their hard work paid off; our students earned 94 first thru sixth place ribbons! 22 St. Mary's students qualified for 35 spots in the state competition!

The North Texas Independent League (NTIL) is comprised of Tioga ISD, Walnut Bend, Sivells Bend, St. Mary’s Catholic School, Immaculate Conception Catholic School, and Sacred Heart of Muenster. The League was formed in order for students in smaller schools, without high schools, to have the opportunity of participating in the State of Texas organized University Interscholastic League (UIL) competitions.
Students participate in athletics, such as basketball, volleyball, and track, and in an annual academic competition.
SMS participates in an academic competition each year through the North Texas Independent League.
Contests include Art Memory, Calculator, Creative Writing, Dictionary Skills, Listening Skills, Maps, Graphs, and Charts, Mathematics, Number Sense, Ready Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Storytelling. NTIL uses UIL Invitational tests.
