With 19 contest categories covering a wide range of disciplines, PSIA provides an opportunity for private, parochial, and home school students in grades 1 through 8 to engage in academic competition with their peers throughout the state of Texas. PSIA remains the most comprehensive academic extracurricular program in the nation for students in grades 1-8.
Contests include Art Memory, Calculator, Creative Writing, Dictionary Skills, Impromptu Speaking, Listening Skills, Maps, Graphs, and Charts, Mathematics, Modern Oratory, Music Memory, Number Sense, On-Site Drawing, Poetry or Prose, Ready Writing, Science, Spelling, Storytelling, and Vocabulary.
On Saturday, March 31st St. Mary's School competed in the District 2A Private Schools Interscholastic Association (PSIA) academic meet. St. Mary's students in grades 1-8 worked very hard in preparing for this competition. Their hard work paid off as St. Mary's School placed 1st in the Elementary and Middle School Divisions and was named Overall Champion! St. Mary's students received ninety-one 1st-6th place ribbons.
Congratulations to all students who competed, and good luck to those that will be competing at the state meet. Thank you to the students, parents and school staff for their dedication, support and hard work. Go Mustangs!
St. Mary's School students Libby Duncan, Landrie Herr, Evan Anderle, Braeden Hess, Cooper Goldsworthy, Preslee Webb, Kaitlyn Rodriguez, Lara Fallon, Dillon Edington, Jared Noblitt, Gage Lee, Haegan Hess, Mason Knabe, Freddy Gutierrez, Mary Gerken, Trevor Hall, Madison Villalobos, Elizabeth Green, and Arianna Johnston qualified for 31 entries at the state competition. The PSIA state academic meet will be held at TCU on Saturday, May 5th. Good Luck! We are so proud of you!

The North Texas Independent League (NTIL) is comprised of Tioga ISD, Walnut Bend, Sivells Bend, St. Mary’s Catholic School, Immaculate Conception Catholic School, and Sacred Heart of Muenster. The League was formed in order for students in smaller schools, without high schools, to have the opportunity of participating in the State of Texas organized University Interscholastic League (UIL) competitions.
Students participate in athletics, such as basketball, volleyball, and track, and in an annual academic competition.
SMS participates in an academic competition each year through the North Texas Independent League.
Contests include Art Memory, Calculator, Creative Writing, Dictionary Skills, Listening Skills, Maps, Graphs, and Charts, Mathematics, Number Sense, Ready Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Storytelling. NTIL uses UIL Invitational tests.
