St Mary’s Catholic School is proud to present the graduating class of 2011.  Graduating 8th grade students are Madyson Cassidy, Joan Dill, Jacob Goldsworthy, Shane Hartman, Tierra Matthews, Suzanne Schmitz and Benjamin Turbeville.  Top honors for valedictorian were given to Carson Markle. Aaron Colmenero and Terry Hall share the distinction of salutatorians.

Valedictorian, Carson Markle, is the son of Bruce and Sonia Markle.  He first enrolled at St. Mary’s in the second grade along with two brothers, Tyler and Conner, who have previously graduated from St Mary’s. Carson’s achievements and contributions have been many throughout his SMS years.  He consistently appeared on the Principal’s Honor Roll, as well as receiving academic recognition in numerous academic subjects. He was a recipient for the Duke Talent Search and the President’s Education Awards Program for Outstanding Academic Excellence. Outside the classroom, Carson participated in school sports, student council, and community service programs.  He ranked high in regional North Texas Independent League (NTIL) meets and qualified for state Private School Interscholastic League (PSIA) competitions.  Carson participated in One Act Play productions where he was named to All Star Cast at district and state levels.

Carson credits his readiness for high school to the fact that St. Mary’s “challenged me academically while encouraging me to work hard and do my best in all areas.” In particular, he notes his Algebra and Geometry teacher, Mrs. Debbie Hundt.  “She guided me to do my best and tested me with difficult problems.”  Carson told us he “will miss the community of students and families that made school feel like home” and leaves the incoming eight grade students with the advice, “to have fun!”

In addition to his salutatorian accolade, Aaron Colmenero was chosen as the recipient of the St. Mary’s School Faith Award. This award is given to an 8th grade student who, at all times, exemplifies a Christian attitude.  The student has strong moral values and practices their faith regularly in thoughts, words, actions and good deeds.  This student is one who has earned the respect of their teachers and their peers.

The All-Around Student for St Mary’s 2011 class is Jacob Goldsworthy.  This award goes to the student who has attended SMS for at least 5 years and is defined as someone who shows loyalty to the school in all that it undertakes.  This student exhibits cooperation in making these undertakings successful, and demonstrates a sense of responsibility for making the experience a reward one for all involved.  The all-around student is someone who participates “All Around” including academics, athletics, community service programs and special events involving the school.
